We’re slow starters, but we sure catch up quick!

So… those of you who made it to the end of the video in the last entry will have realised that a new addition to the Macleod household is imminent.

Actually, make that additions.

Yes, people, we are having TWINS.

I had been suspecting this for a couple of weeks, due to extreme and continuing morning all-day sickness and the fact that I am already showing at 13 weeks. So yesterday, when the ultrasound technician originally assured us that there was only one, I asked her if she was sure (to be fair, though, I’ll bet most parents do that).

She went to reassure me again, and then her voice dropped — “Wait… There is one. There is one. There is one. There is one.”

I was going nuts at this point, trying to figure out if she was saying that there was another one, or just the original one. Apparently (Alasdair explained this later as he could see the screen better than I could), what she was doing was switching back and forth between the two babies each time she was saying, “There is one.”

And so, there are two.

At one point, we could see both of them reach out with their little arms at the same time and touch each other. It was so amazing.

So, to say that yesterday was an emotional day would be an understatement — we are both dog tired today after such a roller coaster and very little sleep last night (I know, get used to it, I hear you saying). Even though I say I suspected it, it’s something else completely for it to be real, and to have actually seen their little bodies on screen. For the record, there is no history of twins on either side of the family, and we haven’t done any fertility treatments, so this is really and truly out of the blue!

We’ve called both sets of grandparents, and most of the aunts and uncles as well. We just can’t stop talking to each other about it, repeating statements like “What have we gotten ourselves into?” and “TWINS! HOLY COW! TWINS!” over and over.

Wow.

And for the skeptics, here’s some visual proof. We didn’t get any good shots of both of them at the same time, but you can see how they were both lying facing each other (I keep imagining them reclining on opposite sides of the (imaginary) sofa in my uterus, just chillin’ together).

Here’s the affectionately named Twin One:

Twin 1

And the one we like to call Twin Two:

Twin 2
