A day in the life

The babies hit a big milestone today — their first bath together!

First bath together!

(Which confirmed to me this is not something we can do when Daddy’s not home — too wild!)

Both babies enjoyed splashing in their alphabet soup:

Clean boy

We also had some other fun times today, including flying with Daddy:

A trip to Costco (where we met some other boy/girl twins close to the same age and exchanged numbers!):

Costco Buddies

And some fresh mangoes!

How to entertain two seven-month-olds

1. Take a box or bin of any type, approximately one foot tall.

2. Fill with stuff. Toys are good, but you’ll have more success with random things like diapers, lotion tubes, and half-empty bottles of Tums.

3. Place box between two babies.

4. Enjoy approximately 30 minutes of peace until box is emptied. (You may enjoy some bonus time if a child is able to turn the box over and some drum-beating commences.)

5. Rinse, repeat.

Must reach... something!

Fun!

1st American Superbowl

Got the root beers in the fridge
Buffalo wings ready for the oven
Nacho fixings lined up
Pregame show is running in the corner of the living room

This is the first time I get to watch a superbowl live without having to stay up till 1am.

With 2 little superfans to help me out.

Granny – nappy changer extraordinaire

My Mum has been here with us for the last 3 weeks, she leaves tomorrow and we are all so sad that Granny is going.

Mum and I flew over together after Dads memorial service (more on that another time) and so Mum has had 3 uninterrupted weeks where she has been able to spend all day every day with her first 2 grandchildren.

I think both she and Melissa have been surprised with how natural and easy their time together has been, the dynamic of a family really changes once little gremlins arrive. Mum and Melissa have been getting steadily closer over the years but that has been drastically accelerated by the arrival of the tiny gang so now the two most important women in my life find themselves firmly on the same team, sometimes this is to my detriment as they gang up to make sure I at all times know what I should be doing and how.

It hasn’t been the most activity filled trip for mum, especially as I had to be away for work for about half the time but she has got to see a bit of Colorado, a bit of the West in general and most importantly be part of the babies days for nearly 1/7th of their lives to date.

Highlights include:

Taking the babies to Bass Pro for the first time to look at all the fish and animals (while daddy did some shopping)
Driving to and from Idaho, the babies were very good on the drives despite their previous aversion to it.
Nearly a week with Grandma and Grandpa Young in Soda Springs getting a feel for the place and firming up friendships.
The weekly fun trips to baby gym for some fun alternative play.
Some top quality shopping.
Generally feeling like a celebrity gran whenever she is anywhere pushing the babies around, so many people want to comment on the bubblies and congratulate the proud twin granny.

Now it is time for her to go back home and Granny will be missed, her cheerful loving presence and her helping hands with the babies will make the house seem empty without her and I am sure the little ones will miss all the extra cuddles that come with Granny.

By the next time she sees them in July they will be mobile and very different, it is only 5 months away but they are changing so fast as they become little people, but we have hooked up the webcam so she can tune in from Lochmaddy.

Thanks Mum, come back as soon as you can.

Blessed!

Alice and Andrew were blessed on Sunday in my home ward in Soda Springs. We had a great weekend with family, and Alasdair did a wonderful job with the blessings (I was so proud of him — just imagine having to do that twice, back-to-back, your first time!).

Andrew looked so handsome in the Macleod family christening gown. We’re not sure how long it’s been in the family, but Alasdair’s dad, John, wore it 75 years ago, and we know it’s been used dozens of times since then, too, including for Alasdair’s christening.

Andrew

(We were explaining to my five-year-old nephew, Casen, about christenings, and he got the terminology a little confused. He spent the next little while referring to the babies being “crucified”!)

And Alice looked just precious in the dress that I wore when I was blessed (Maurie and Litia also wore it):

A special part of the day was the Young cousins singing “I Am A Child of God” as a part of the sacrament meeting program. We were so grateful so many of our family made the time and effort to join us on this special day. More pictures below!

Baby sitters

Alice has been trying to sit on her own for about a month now, and she’s finally good enough at it that I can safely back away with the camera and take a picture:

She sits!

Andrew is still working on it, but catching up quick:

Happy Six-Month Birthday to Alice & Andrew!

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been six months! We started the twins on solids a few days ago while we were home in Idaho for Christmas.

Alice loved it:

Solids: Hurrah!

Andrew was not such a fan:

Solids: Not A Fan
